Chuck Norris gets Choked

When you hear the name Chuck Norris, most people have a joke or 2 about how tough he is. For example, when the Boogeyman goes to sleep at night, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris.

Everyone knows him as the movie star that fought Bruce Lee, the kicking Commando in Delta Force or the Law man from Walker Texas Ranger. But that's not his real name. It's Carlos Ray Norris. After serving in the United States Air Force, he won many martial arts championships and later founded his own school of fighting, Chun Kuk Do. Norris is a black belt in Tang Soo Do, Brazilian jiu jitsu and Judo.

What many don't know is that way back in the day, Chuck was vacationing in Rio de Janeiro and was going around to all the different martial arts schools to working out. He visited the Gracie Academy. Since Chuck was a black belt in judo, he thought he had some pretty good grappling skills. When he got on the ground with Rickson Gracie,it was like he’d never had a lesson in his life.

He was so impressed that Chuck Norris wanted his Black Belts in the UFAF to learn the Jiu jitsu. So on July 22, 1988 Rorion, Relson, Royce, Renzo, & Rickson Gracie along with Carlos Machado are brought in by Chuck Norris to teach a seminar at the USAF(US Air Force) in Las Vegas. This is years before the 1st UFC (1993). Chuck Norris and Rickson Gracie do an exhibition match with each other to show the futility of striking against a BJJ expert. Rickson closes the distance, takes him down, controls his postion and quickly chokes Chuck out. Watch the video below to see the match.

You have to admire Chuck for being open minded and willing to train in another style of martial arts even though he was already a black belt in Karate and Judo. He eventually found his way to the Machado Academy of Brazilian jiu jitsu, where he would train for the next 28 years of his life and where he would achieve the BJJ black belt. Now, the 75-year-old Chuck has achieved his third-degree black belt in the art.
